THE PHOTOGRAPHY
1.
THE FIRST PHOTOGRAPH
View from the Window at Le Gras 1826 or 1827,
believed to be the earliest surviving camera photograph

2.
THE DAGUERREOTYPE
Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre invented the daguerreotype
process in France. It was the first
commercially successful photographic process
which was capable of capturing a "truthful likeness."

3.
THE FIRST WAR PHOTOGRAPHER
Roger Fenton was the first official war photographer and the
first to attempt a systematic coverage of war for the benefit of the public.
Hired by Thomas Agnew, he landed at Balaclava in 1854.

4.
THE BIRTH OF PHOTOJOURNALISIM
Two primary elements are generally credited with making
press photography possible.
·
First were huge technical improvements in
photographic supplies.
·
The second element that made press photography
possible was the emergence of half-tone screen technology that enabled
newspapers to publish reproductions of photographs, rather than relying on the
traditional method of using woodcuts which were hand-drawn.
·
Also it's important to remember that social,
political, and cultural forces were also at work promoting certain styles and
norms for journalism, newspapers, and press photography.

5.
INSTANT PHOTOGRAPHY IS BORN.
Edwin H. Land (1909–1991) was the innovative inventor
responsible for conceiving of and perfecting instant photography. Known simply
as Polaroid, the system revolutionized traditional photography by compressing
darkroom processes into an integrated film unit and producing a final
photograph in the seconds following the click of a camera shutter.

6.
MAGUNM PHOTOS IS CREATED
In 1947, following the aftermath of the Second World War,
four pioneering photographers founded a now legendary alliance. Combining an extraordinary
range of individual styles into one powerful collaboration, Henri
Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, George Rodger and David Seymour started, over a
celebratory bottle of champagne, the most important artists’ cooperative ever
created: The Magnum Photos agency.

7.
DIGITAL PHOTO REVOLUTIONIZES THE INDUSTRY.
Digital photography revolutionized the industry by
eliminating the delay and cost. The ease of viewing, transferring, editing and
distributing digital images allowed consumers to manage their digital photos
with ordinary home computers rather than specialized equipment.
Since 2003, digital cameras have outsold film cameras.
Prices of 35mm compact cameras have dropped with manufacturers further
outsourcing to countries such as China.
